Self Help
The Ni-Vanuatu people are a proud people and enjoy being self-reliant. They do not want to be on just the receiving end of ‘hand-outs’.
First we sent them tools, including a hand turned blade sharpener, which were placed in a special house. Anyone who wanted to borrow them had to pay a small fee. That fee might have been a fish or coconut, or lobster.
They requested a sewing machine and material. Then set about having their woman taught how to use the sewing machine. It was a proud day when they sent us their first Vt10,000 (around $US80) to purchase more material for them.
It was not long before they sent a request for a second machine.
Thank you for joining with us to help these beautiful people.
